Steve was kind enough to write to me after Wee Rob`s launch, sending a splendid CD full of pictures of the build and first sail. He is very happy for me to publish his remarks.
He indicates that Wee Rob is really rather small for a man of his size. It is true that the smaller the boat, the longer it takes proportional to the length to build, i.e. there are certain fixed things to be done regardless of length - the set-up for example - and fitting an 18ft plank takes almost exactly the same time as a 12 foot one. The other thing is that different construction, and in particular the number of planks per side, has a great bearing on the time to build. Materials are not a big part of the equation until you get into yachts.
So my advice is to fill in the ENQUIRY form before ever you buy the plans! Then I can give you a clear idea of whether the boat you may have in mind will really suit both you and how you want to use her. Steve Roberts Wee Rob |
