Build-a-Boat   Sanderling
Hugh was overjoyed to spend a fortnight building the hull of his Shearwater Sanderling.

There's one more plank to go - number three on the other side, then the outer stems & keel.
You can see Hugh's well deserved pleasure at the way this one has gone on. The ply was flat with no 'waves' in it, Hugh had taken care to fit the oversize plank correctly, mark it up accurately and plane it dead to the line. So it lies tight to the lap, with only three or four 'nippers'.

You can see the dark line of the still unset glue squeezed out. Hugh has just finished trowelling it into a thick, even coat along the open edge of the new plank.   This seals the edge permanently.

Hugh kindly wrote to me afterwards: "For anyone with an interest in woodwork, as well as in boats, the course is a goldmine. ...For me it was a course on better ways of doing things, with...a planked up hull as valuable bonus."
