Syrinx Sail & Oar's demonstrator. I built her in 1992, incorporating a number of changes to Joel White's Shearwater design to improve her already smart sailing capabilities. Sail area increase from 67sq ft to 90sq ft, 1 3/4" wider top plank to give her more freeboard, and a hollow mast & yard.
Here Toby, my apprentice for nearly three years, is sailing her so that he can experience how all the fittings he learnt to make actually work on the water. He made good use of his training and turned himself into a fine furniture & cabinet maker. |
