| Ed Southall built his Shearwater 16ft rowing & sailing boat on a BUILD-A-BOAT COURSE, but since he lives pretty close to my workshop, and could arrange one day off per week, he built the hull at home in his garage. We did the preparation - laminating frames & stems and building the centreboard & case - in my workshop, working every Wednesday. Then we transported one of my 'set-ups' to his garage and bolted it to his concrete floor. We set up the frames & stems, just like in the main picture in the More Information section of this page. We carried on planking the hull, right through to finishing the fit-out, working every Wednesday, in his garage. That way he could accommodate his work, look forward to a day's boatbuilding every week, and I didn't have the boat in the way while I carried on with my other projects. Ed's dog climbed in OK. ... Then there was a volley of piercing shrieks from the ladies. No prizes for guessing what the dog's first move had been! |
