| A lovely 12ft Paddling Sailing Canoe designed by Iain Oughtred. As he says in his catalogue: "The Wee Rob and MacGregor designs have nothing about them which would have caused any surprises in the 1890s..." Steve Roberts rang me up when he had the plans and was just starting to build, in his garage, on the Northeast coast of Scotland. He was very systematic. Every time he rang, he had a list of questions ready noted down. We worked through them, with me asking: "Is that enough on that question?" at appropriate moments. At the end, Steve just said: "OK, that's all for now." and we agreed how many minutes he had had. He built the whole boat using only £80 worth of advice, which saved him hours of puzzling, frustrating mistakes. Steve wrote just after launching her: "I have finished Wee Rob and it's had its first sail. ...I'm pleased with the outcome and I've achieved a far better result than I had hoped for. ... Thanks for your advice along the way. I'm already thinking of a next project..." |
