You may have a boat in your family, or have recently acquired one. But she`s had a hard life and been neglected. What can you do?

TO RESTORE OR NOT, THAT IS THE QUESTION
Here are the first questions to ask:

  • Will this boat do what I want?
  • Is it a good boat of its kind?
  • Is she a family heirloom?
  • Is she worth restoring?

Hard though it may seem, it is really not worth paying for or putting in a lot of your time if, when she`s finished, the boat will not answer your needs.  Nor if she`s not a good example of her type.

If she`s a family heirloom you may wish nevertheless to take on her restoration, but you will have to be prepared for quite a cost in time and/or money.

Does this all sound depressing?  Don`t worry!  You and the family can often do most or all of the work. If you ask me to advise you on how to go about it, you won`t need much of my time. But you will have the enormous satisfaction of doing the job properly and getting it finished.

Here are three Routes To Satisfaction:

  1. I do the work.
  2. WE do the work.  You do most, I do only what you want me to.
  3. YOU do all the work, drawing on my expertise thro` my AdviceLine when you need it.

Which route you choose depends on your budget versus time.
Other factors come into the equation too, eg space available, and how good you are at cajoling other people to lend a hand.
